Loan Empowers Glenn Memorial UMC

Expand

By Rev. Dr. P. Alice Rogers, Senior Pastor of Glenn Memorial UMC, Atlanta*

Glenn Memorial UMC entered an extensive renovation project of the Youth Activities Building in 2016. We raised enough money through pledges to fund the project; however, these pledges were to be paid over three years. We needed funding to pay for the final construction costs while we continued to receive pledge payments during the third year.

This loan from GUMF enables us to bridge the gap between the funds we have already received and those that are forthcoming. Through this renovation, we are able to expand our mission and ministry into the surrounding community and into the wider Atlanta area. Our recreation and scouting programs bring many people into the church, and we hope to expand those programs. The upgrades will also enable us to host high school and college groups interested in urban missions.

The process of securing the loan from GUMF felt more like we were dealing with “family” than an institution. We were confident that GUMF had our best interests at heart and wanted to make the process as easy as possible. We also were confident that their advice and guidance held the concerns of the church central.
