94 Scholarships and Counting!

When the Rev. Martha Forrest, retired North Georgia Conference district superintendent, turned 75, her friends and family held a combination birthday bash and endowment fundraising drive that raised $100,000 and yielded four $1,000 scholarships in 2013. Since that time, 94 students have received these matching United Methodist Dollars for Scholars scholarships.

“These scholarships are a perfect way to give back and support Methodist students, churches, and schools. Martha received the Georgia Harkness Scholarship when she was in seminary,” said her husband, Bob Forrest. “We and others have consistently added to the endowment. One donor has made a substantial gift at Christmas every year since the beginning. Virginia Griffin, Martha’s friend, died recently. Her will contained a $10,000 gift to the endowment–a total surprise.”
