Who Are You Expecting This Christmas? An Advent Devotion and Preparation Guide
“Ask, and it will be given you; search, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened for you.” - Luke 11:9
Christmas in my house growing up was a time of great preparations. Our home was filled with relatives. We cleaned up, stocked up, and shaped up. Rearranging furniture to accommodate the Christmas tree meant cleaning where no broom had swept in 12 months! Shopping for and carrying in food was an all hands on deck experience. We got haircuts, straightened our rooms, decorated, and did whatever we were asked in happy expectation of all that Christmas entailed.
What do you suppose would happen if believers all over the world truly expected to find Jesus at their door on Christmas morning? How should we prepare for that? We can clean up with prayer and reflection. We can stock up with study and worship. And we can straighten up by sharing our witness in word and action so that others might find Jesus as well this Christmas!
Lord, prepare us to expect you this Christmas. Help us to find you at our door, to welcome you into our heart, and to open doors for others to find you also.
